There were three realms: Divine, Hellish, and Humane; Humans and their beliefs filled the Humane, the demonic and wretched the Hellish, and the righteous and monstrous the Divine. The Mixing ended all that, and the three realms fell into each other. Travel became a living nightmare, and for a millennium, chaos ensued. Parsnip is too young to know what it was like, but she knows that Pandora's Crossing was the answer. Now, if only her friend Hemlock would be a better guide when riding the famed train.
